Battle of Atlantic Ceremony to be Held at Maritime Museum
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic will host the 68th Anniversary of Victory at Sea and the Battle of the Atlantic Ceremony.
On Saturday, April 30, at 11 a.m., the museum will host the Canadian and Norwegian Merchant Navy Remembrance Service. This ceremony has been an annual tradition at the museum. A Sea Cadet Band will play and wreaths will be placed by various representatives and local marine organizations.
"The museum is proud to host a memorial service for members of the Canadian and Norwegian merchant navy who lost their lives during the Battle of the Atlantic," said David Wilson, Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage. "I encourage everyone to take a few moments to reflect on the sacrifice made by these courageous veterans."
A number of events will be held next week in Halifax to commemorate the Victory at Sea and Battle of the Atlantic. They are dedicated to the 4,234 Canadian Navy and Merchant Navy sailors and airmen who lost their lives between September 1939 and May 1945. They maintained shipping routes linking North America with Europe during the longest single campaign of the Second World War.
The museum event is free and refreshments will be served.
