Province Supports Economic Development in Southwest Region
The province is supporting economic development in Southwest Nova Scotia by investing in a new, private-sector-led task force that will seek business opportunities for the region.
Economic and Rural Development Minister Percy Paris announced a contribution of $100,000 for Taskforce South West today, April 6.
"This investment will help the community identify and pursue funding for projects and events designed to create good jobs, grow the economy and attract people to Southwest Nova Scotia," said Mr. Paris. "I commend the community for taking the lead on this project, and I look forward to seeing the positive results that come from it."
The task force has six members of the private sector representing various businesses. Municipal representatives are also being asked to join.
"Taskforce South West is excited about the prospect of this volunteer private-sector team assisting in the economic growth of our region," said Keith Condon, chairman of Taskforce South West. "Our organization is made up of successful businesspeople who want to facilitate an efficient and direct approach to developing successful projects in the Southwest region."
The task force is expected to represent the communities and population of the Southwest region. Spending will be fully accounted for, and there will be an orderly transition to a new regional development authority within 30 days of its creation.
Creating a new regional development authority for the region remains a top priority, and the province continues to support municipal efforts to form a new organization.
