Crown Attorneys Appointed to Dartmouth Office

Alex Keaveny and Robert Kennedy have been appointed Crown attorneys in the Dartmouth office of the Public Prosecution Service.

The appointments were announced today, March 29, by Martin Herschorn, director of Public Prosecutions.

"I am very pleased to have Mr. Keaveny and Mr. Kennedy join the Public Prosecution Service," said Mr. Herschorn. "Their prosecutorial experience will be an asset to our team."

A native of Charlottetown, Mr. Keaveny graduated from Concordia University in 1998 with a bachelor of arts and graduated from McGill University law school in 2000. He articled with the Ministry of the Attorney General in Toronto and was later appointed a provincial prosecutor and an assistant Crown attorney.

In 2003, Mr. Keaveny returned to P.E.I. and later to Halifax where he focused on civil litigation. In 2005, he began working as per diem duty counsel for Nova Scotia Legal Aid and a per diem Crown attorney before being appointed a full-time Crown attorney.

In 2006, he left the Public Prosecution Service and joined the Halifax law firm, Stewart McKelvey, where he practiced civil litigation, tax litigation and regulatory defence. Since 2008, Mr. Keaveny has been a lecturer at Dalhousie University.

Mr. Keaveny is a former vice-president of Halifax Skatepark coalition. He has volunteered as legal counsel for the Halifax refugee clinic and was a supervising lawyer for Pro Bono Students Canada.

Robert Kennedy, a native of Halifax, graduated from Saint Mary's University in 2005 with a bachelor of arts in criminology and from Dalhousie law school in 2008.

He articled with the law firm of Blois, Nickerson and Bryson, before carrying on a criminal, family and civil litigation practice. Mr. Kennedy was appointed a per diem Crown attorney in December 2009.

Mr. Kennedy is a provincial level soccer referee and involved in the local soccer community.
