Council of the Federation Literacy Award Makes Call for Nominations
Nova Scotians have a chance to recognize someone whose hard work and dedication to literacy has inspired others.
Canada's premiers annually recognize Council of the Federation Literacy Awards recipients in each province and territory. The award recognizes adult learners who have made outstanding progress in learning and demonstrated leadership in their community or school.
"Improving literacy and essential skills is key to making life better for Nova Scotians," said Premier Darrell Dexter." In addition to increasing workforce opportunities, it leads to a greater sense of confidence and engagement in family, community and society."
The award recognizes the role literacy plays in the social and economic well-being of Canadians.
"Past winners inspired us and continue to inspire others," said Marilyn More, Minister of Labour and Advanced Education. "We hope Nova Scotians will nominate those whose commitment to literacy moves others to embrace lifelong learning. There are many opportunities and programs available to improve essential skills."
Award winners are presented with a medallion and a certificate of merit by the premier during a ceremony in the fall.
Nomination forms are available online at www.goNSSAL.ca or by calling toll free 1-877-GoNSSAL (466-7725). The deadline for nominations is Friday, April 29.
