Nominations Sought for 2011 Order of Nova Scotia

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Order of Nova Scotia, the province's highest honour recognizing citizens who are making outstanding contributions to Nova Scotia.

"Every day there are Nova Scotians out there making positive changes in their communities," said Premier Darrell Dexter. "These individuals give their time and energy to make life better for others and they deserve to be recognized and appreciated.

"I strongly encourage people who know someone that fits this description to nominate or re-nominate them for the Order of Nova Scotia."

The province is accepting nominations until March 18. Recipients are selected by the Order of Nova Scotia Advisory Council.

Nova Scotians can be nominated for a variety of reasons. In 2010, musical educator Chalmers Doane, Christmas Daddies founder, the late James (Jim) Hill, champion of racial equality and justice Burnley (Rocky) Jones, educator and advocate for rural and economic development Eva Landry, and minister, publisher and philanthropist, the late Rev. William (Bill) Pope, were all invested into the Order of Nova Scotia.

Nomination forms are available at all Access Nova Scotia centres, Province House, offices of members of the legislative assembly, Nova Scotia members of Parliament and the Senate, and municipal offices. This year nomination forms and posters have also been sent to the 87 provincial and branch libraries across the province.

People who wish to re-nominate, need only fill out a new nomination form and submit a photocopy of the previous nomination package.
