Premier Congratulates Boxing Team
Premier Darrell Dexter congratulated Nova Scotia boxers for winning two gold and two silver medals at the Halifax 2011 Canada Games today, Feb. 25.
"The performance tonight by our Nova Scotia boxers will go down as a proud day in our province's history," said Premier Dexter. "Team Nova Scotia continues to build on one of its best efforts at the Canada Winter Games and we're so fortunate to have been able to watch it happen here at home."
The following athletes took home medals in boxing:
- Jason Downey, North Preston, gold in 49-52 kg
- Taylor Gordon, Beaver Bank, silver in 60-64 kg
- Cyrus Taylor, Middleton, silver in 64-69 kg
- Matt Whitford, Kentville, gold in 81-91 kg
Today's results bring Team Nova Scotia's medal count to 12 - five gold, six silver and one bronze - putting Nova Scotia among the leaders for the Centennial Cup, given to the team that shows the biggest improvement over the previous winter Games.
