Youth Take Challenge at Atlantic Intermediate 4-H Members Conference

Ninety-two Atlantic 4-H members will Take the 4-H Challenge to be the best leaders they can be during a dynamic conference, Feb. 25-27, in Debert.

The interactive conference helps 4-H members age 12 to 15 develop personal, teamwork, communication and leadership skills, lets them practice physical fitness and learn about science, agriculture, community and the environment.

"Through the 4-H program, youth learn life skills such as leadership and communication and experience new opportunities that help them do better in school and be more motivated to help others," said John MacDonell, Minister of Agriculture. "This Atlantic conference is an excellent avenue to develop strong character and form lasting friendships."

Presentations include goal-setting challenges with Mark Essay, healthy living challenges with Ufit's Gordon McNeilly and a challenge in laughter with Gerry Sullivan and Carl George, a health and wellness specialist.

"Nova Scotia is pleased to host this year's Atlantic 4-H conference," said Ruth Grant, senior 4-H program co-ordinator. "Our presenters will help us meet our conference goal to develop leadership skills and self-confidence in 4-H members by introducing them to a variety of topics that challenge them mentally and physically."

Funding has been provided by the Atlantic 4-H Committee, Agrium, Agri-Food Industry Development Fund and the Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland Prince Edward Island provincials 4-H councils.
