Buy Local, Eat Fresh in Winter
NOTE: The full list of incrEDIBLE suppers follows this release.
Eating locally grown food in winter has never been easier. Through the Winter Fresh campaign, Select Nova Scotia is spotlighting delicious, locally grown food that can be enjoyed year round.
"We are so fortunate in Nova Scotia to have the agricultural diversity that we do," said Agriculture Minister John MacDonell. "I encourage all Nova Scotians to take part in one of the many events planned to raise awareness of what local foods are available, and where they can be found."
Beginning with IncrEDIBLE Community Suppers, the events will run throughout February and March.
The Winter Fresh campaign is again partnering with the Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia to include the popular Dine Around event where Nova Scotia restaurants feature multi-course, local food-inspired meals at a fixed price.
There are also a number of food samplings planned around the province to allow Nova Scotians to taste the local food advantage.
"Whether it's a local food-inspired meal at your community centre, going to a restaurant you've always wanted to try or stopping by a farmer's market to gather ingredients for your own homemade creation, you can't go wrong," said Mr. MacDonell. "There's an opportunity for everyone to enjoy delicious local food at this time of year."
Developed by the province, Select Nova Scotia was created to forge partnerships with food producers, processors, retailers, food service and consumers and to promote the sale and consumption of Nova Scotia grown and produced food.
