Severe Weather Advisory Issued

A complex weather system overnight today, Jan. 26, and into Thursday, Jan. 27, will bring a mix of severe winter storm conditions, freezing rain and possible storm surge to parts of Nova Scotia.

While the storm is continuing to develop and remains difficult to predict, Nova Scotians should take precautions and be prepared for the potential loss of services, adverse driving conditions and some possible coastal flooding.

"These storms can bring severe and unpredictable conditions," said Ross Landry, Minister for Emergency Management. "Be prepared for 72-hours and stay safe."

Environment Canada says heavy snowfall should be expected in coastal areas of western and northern Nova Scotia including the Cobequid Pass. People should use caution when travelling. Residents in western areas, where freezing rain is expected, should have alternative heating and lighting sources. Storm surge is possible during high tide along the Northumberland shore. Residents are asked to monitor local weather conditions and watch for additional warnings from Environment Canada or advice from emergency managers.
