Winter Storm Preparations Advised
Nova Scotians are encouraged to prepare for a snowy Nor'easter today, Jan. 12, that will make driving conditions hazardous and could lead to an interruption of power and other services.
Environment Canada forecasts some areas of the province could receive up to 30 centimetres of snow by Thursday, Jan. 13.
"Nova Scotians should take precautions," said Ross Landry, Minister for the Emergency Management Office. "Our advice is that families have food and other supplies on hand for at least 72 hours."
Nova Scotia Power says it has placed repair crews on standby.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal warns that drivers should check road conditions before travelling and, if at all possible, avoid driving during severe weather.
The department has more than 500 pieces of snow removal equipment provincewide ready to clear snow and salt roads.
Road conditions across the province are available by calling 511 and visiting www.gov.ns.ca/tran .
