Chief Clerk of the House of Assembly Appointed

Speaker Charlie Parker today, Jan. 11, announced the appointment of a new chief clerk of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly.

Neil Ferguson, who has been a Legislative Counsel and an assistant clerk of the House, and has been acting chief clerk since September, is the new chief clerk, effective immediately.

"I want to congratulate and thank Neil for providing this valuable service to the legislature and for all Nova Scotians," said Mr. Parker. "He has displayed professionalism and complete competence in his roles thus far, and I look forward to working with him in his new role."

As part of his duties as chief clerk, Mr. Ferguson also will be a member of the House of Assembly Management Commission.

Mr. Ferguson has 19 years experience in the public service with the province. Before joining government, he was in private legal practice. He graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1986.

Mr. Ferguson is a past-president of the Association of Clerks-at-the-Table in Canada, the professional organization for the parliamentary officers of the House of Commons, the Senate and the legislative assemblies of the provinces and territories.
