A Screening Night For A Drummer's Dream
Film Nova Scotia and Empire Theatres will host a free public screening of the documentary A Drummer's Dream on Monday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. at the Parklane Theatre.
A Drummer's Dream, from Genie and Gemini award-winning director John Walker has had highly successful screenings at top film festivals across Canada, and has opened theatrically in major cities across the country.
Set at an idyllic music camp for emerging musicians in rural Ontario, the film focuses on a rare assembly of some of the most versatile drummers in the world, including Nasyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr, Dennis Chambers, Kenwood Dennard, Horacio "El-Negro" Hernandez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Mike Mangini and Raul Rekow, awe-inspiring musicians who have backed up Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Carlos Santana and now, each other.
It showcases their explosive talent –- running the gamut from Latin and rock to jazz and soul –- as well as their passion, humour and irresistible personalities.
The film has earned a Top Ten Audience Favourite award at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival and a coveted repeat nod from the Vancouver International Film Festival. A Drummer's Dream also screened at the Atlantic Film Festival, and Montreal's, RIDM -- Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal.
Screening Nights are presented by Film Nova Scotia and Empire Theatres. They are held four times a year, and allow local audiences to see homegrown film productions and enable local filmmakers to promote their work.
