Premier Congratulates Giller Prize Recipient

Premier Darrell Dexter today, Nov. 10, congratulated Johanna Skibsrud of Scotsburn, Pictou Co., on winning the Scotiabank Giller Prize for her debut novel, The Sentamentalists.

The Giller Prize is a $50,000 award recognizing excellence in Canadian fiction, both novels and collections of short stories.

"This an incredible accomplishment for a new author and testament to the talent coming out of this province," said Premier Dexter. "On behalf of all Nova Scotians, I want to congratulate Ms. Skibsrud on receiving the Giller Prize, one the country's most popular literary awards."

The Sentamentalists is a novel detailing the painful search by a daughter to find out the truth about her dying father's life.

Ms. Skisrud received the award Tuesday at the Giller gala in Toronto. The winner was chosen by a panel of judges from 98 books submitted by 38 publishing houses across the country.
