Job Creation, Investment Focus of Conference

Creating jobs and opportunities to invest in innovation and clean technologies will be the focus of the 2010 Power of Green Conference.

The event will take place Monday, Nov. 8, at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax.

Premier Darrell Dexter will deliver his keynote address, along with Superstore executive chairman Galen Weston, and Investeco founder and CEO Andrew Heintzman.

"In many ways, Nova Scotians are already leaders in the green economy, and this conference will help us build on those successes," said Premier Dexter. "Taking advantage of these new global opportunities will help grow our economy and create good jobs for people across the province."

To further encourage sharing ideas, conference delegates will be able to choose from several industry-specific breakout sessions. Topics for these small, informal group discussions include renewable energy, cleantech financing, entrepreneurship, and sustainable fisheries.

This year's participants include a wide range of experts, including deputy minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Paul LeFleche, Efficiency Nova Scotia interim CEO Alan Crandlemire, Atlantic Venture Capital's James Drage and 7 Virtues Communications Group CEO Barb Stegemann.

"It's time to talk about how innovative green business ideas can benefit local businesses in real, concrete ways," said Ms. Stegemann. "Sustainable business strategies not only save money, but garner companies a lot of positive attention which will separate your company from the rest."
