Conference Will Sharpen Emergency Skills, Help Protect Nova Scotians

Skills and strategies that help make Nova Scotians safer during emergencies will be sharpened this week at a conference of emergency managers and planners.

The Emergency Management Office will host more than 80 provincial and municipal emergency management planners at a conference, Partners in Preparedness, at the Dartmouth Holiday Inn from today, Oct. 27, to Friday, Oct. 29.

"With natural disasters like the flooding in Meat Cove and Hurricane Earl fresh in our minds, it's important that Nova Scotians be informed and prepared for whatever comes our way," said Ramona Jennex, Minster responsible for the Emergency Management Office.

"Conferences like this bring many of our partners together and are a great way to learn and plan for emergencies."

Ms. Jennex will address conference delegates today and Thursday evenings.

The conference will tackle a range of emergency planning issues, including effective emergency communications, emergency planning for major public events such as the Canada Games, and hazard risk vulnerability assessments.
