Glen Race Extradited Back to Canada

Glen Race, a Nova Scotia man charged with the May, 2007 murders of two Halifax area men, is being extradited to Canada from the United States and will be arraigned in Bridgewater provincial court at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

"The extradition process went smoothly," said Halifax Chief Crown Attorney Denise Smith. "Mr. Race is being transported back to Nova Scotia to answer to charges of first degree murder in connection with the deaths of Michael Paul Knott and Trevor Charles Brewster."

Mr. Knott's body was found in a wooded area in Mill Cove on May 5, 2007 while Mr. Brewster’s body was found four days later under a boardwalk at a Dartmouth lake.

Mr. Race was arrested May 15, 2007 trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. American authorities charged him with the murder of an upstate New York man who was killed May 11, 2007. He was later convicted of that murder and sentenced to life in prison in the U.S.

Mr. Race was an early suspect in the Nova Scotia murders and he was formally charged with those murders on May 16, 2007.

The Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service began application to the federal government in January, 2009 to have Mr. Race extradited, once his conviction and sentencing hearing in the U.S. concluded. The Public Prosecution Service was notified this week that Mr. Race could be picked up. The RCMP will escort Mr. Race back to Nova Scotia.

Mr. Race will be returned to the United States once court proceedings are completed.
