Province Extends Deadline for Tidal Demonstration Project Proposals

The province is extending the deadline for developers to submit proposals to join the tidal demonstration program in the Minas Channel.

The deadline is being extended from Oct. 20 to Nov. 22.

"It's a busy time of year and some companies asked for more time to prepare," said Energy Minister Bill Estabrooks. "This is an important next step in our tidal development plans and we want to make sure there is enough time for companies to make informed responses to the request for proposals."

The successful proponent will join Nova Scotia Power, ALSTOM and Minas Basin Pulp and Power in the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) project.

FORCE is a public-private partnership that allows developers, regulators, scientists and academics to study the performance and interaction of tidal energy turbines with the Bay of Fundy's environment. It is funded by the provincial and federal governments, and developers.

The request for proposals can be found at www.gov.ns.ca/tenders and more information on the tidal project can be found at www.fundyforce.ca .
