Premier Congratulates Sobeys on Groundbreaking of New Head Office

Premier Darrell Dexter was in Stellarton today, Aug. 16, to offer congratulations and support on behalf of the the province at the groundbreaking of the new head office building for Sobeys Inc.

"I am pleased that Sobeys has chosen Stellarton as the site of its new head office, the same town where Sobeys got its start more than 100 years ago," said Premier Dexter. "Congratulations to the company and all of its employees for a century of creating good jobs, growing Nova Scotia's economy and supporting our local industries."

Since 1907, Sobeys has grown from a family-owned business into a $15.2-billion national grocery chain that operates 1,300 stores across Canada, including locations in 30 Nova Scotia communities.

The head office on King Street will house a number of the company's senior executives, as well as national finance, human resources, legal and loss prevention personnel.

Construction will begin next month and it is expected to be completed by September 2011.
