Province Invests in Jost Building Upgrade

A community effort to revitalize the Guysborough waterfront's Jost Wharf Building has received a boost from the province.

The Department of Economic and Rural Development today, Aug. 11, announced the $20,000 investment, from the Community Development Fund, for the Guysborough Waterfront Development Society.

"The province is making life better for families in every region by investing in community-led initiatives," said MLA Jim Boudreau, on behalf of Economic and Rural Development Minister Percy Paris. "This is a sustainable investment that has the potential to benefit the Guysborough area for years to come."

The building is used for community meetings and events, but requires significant renovations to remain safe and sustainable. The funds will help repair, winterize, prevent rot and enhance safety, which will help raise income through increased rentals.

"We are so excited to be moving forward with the improvements our building needs to be the cornerstone of our community," said Paul Long, chair of the Guysborough Waterfront Development Society. "This is an important first step in creating a vibrant and active waterfront for future generations."

The Community Development Fund assists regional areas and rural communities with local planning and entrepreneurship. It helps to develop co-operatives and projects to ensure sustainable communities across Nova Scotia. Last year, projects totaled more than $1.4 million.
