Acting Premier Extends Condolences to Friends and Family of George Mitchell
Acting Premier Frank Corbett today, Aug. 10, expressed condolences to the friends and family of former MLA, cabinet minister and Speaker of the House George Mitchell who passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, in Halifax.
"I want to offer my condolences to Mr. Mitchell's family during this difficult time," said Mr. Corbett. "George Mitchell served his constituents and the people of Nova Scotia well for many years and will be remembered by his colleagues as a man of great integrity."
Mr. Mitchell was an MLA from 1970-1979 serving the people of Halifax-Cornwallis. After he left politics he returned to law until his retirement in 2001.
"Mr. Mitchell was always committed to his community and to his province even after he left politics," said Mr. Corbett. "He was well-respected by all who had the opportunity to work with him."
