Housing Authorities Merge to Improve Client Service

Nova Scotians in the southwestern region of the province will soon find it easier to access public housing services.

On Dec. 1, the Annapolis Valley, South Shore and Tri-County (Digby, Yarmouth and Shelburne) Housing Authorities will unite systems and resources under a new name, the Western Regional Housing Authority.

Families and seniors now living in public housing, and people trying to access affordable housing in these counties, will notice a more efficient, client-focused approach. As a result of the merger, staff will be better able to assist them in accessing the programs and services they need.

"The government is committed to safe, affordable housing for low income Nova Scotians. A big part of that commitment is always being on the lookout for new ways to improve our client services," said Minister of Community Services, Denise Peterson-Rafuse.

"Merging the housing authorities lets us streamline office processes so we can put staff and other resources where Nova Scotians need them most."

The Annapolis Valley, South Shore and Tri-County (Digby, Yarmouth and Shelburne) Housing Authorities were created as regional housing authorities in 1997. No offices will close, there will be no loss of employment and no staff members are expected to move as part of the restructuring. The merger is part of an ongoing effort to help housing authorities become more efficient service providers.
