Premier Expresses Sorrow Over Death of Sgt. James MacNeil

Premier Darrell Dexter, today, June 21, expressed sorrow over the death of Sgt. James "Jimmy" MacNeil, from Glace Bay who was killed in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device.

"It is a tragic day for Mr. MacNeil's family, the town of Glace Bay, and indeed the Canadian Armed Forces," said Premier Dexter. "I want to offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. MacNeil as they face this difficult time in their lives."

Premier Dexter said that Mr. MacNeil's family can take comfort in knowing that he died fighting for freedom, peace, democracy and helping to improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan.

In honour of Mr. MacNeil, flags at Province House and all provincial government buildings in Glace Bay will be lowered to half-mast.
