Catch Seafood Festival
The Catch Seafood Festival is coming to the Cunard Centre in Halifax on June 19 and 20 and it promises to be as exciting as the seafood that will be served.
There will be seafood tastings, wine pairing events, oyster shucking competitions, demonstrations on lobster preparation, handling techniques, and cooking, music, and the Great Catch Chef Competition. Food Network chefs Chuck Hughes of Chucks Day Off and Anthony Sedlac of The Main, and nutritionist-author Leslie Beck will be there.
"Catch is about experiencing Nova Scotia seafood in a unique setting but it's not just about food tasting, it's also a place where people can find new ways to add seafood to their menus and learn more about the industry," said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau who will officially open the event on Saturday morning. "We've created this festival to raise awareness that we have a thriving seafood industry that creates good jobs and grows the economy."
This is the second year the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture has put on this event. Restaurants, seafood producers, harvesters, and other groups important to Nova Scotia's seafood industry, such as the Marine Stewardship Council and the Aquaculture Association of Nova Scotia, will have exhibits at the festival.
There will also be a fishing vessel docked alongside Cunard Centre so that visitors can meet the crew and learn more about the fishing industry. Buyers from Europe are also expected to attend.
