Halifax Biomedical Creates High-tech Jobs in Mabou

Nova Scotia Business Inc. (Dec. 2004 - Nov. 2022)

Innovation, competitiveness, and niche products in the marketplace are helping one Nova Scotia company grow its business, create jobs in Cape Breton and succeed on a global level.

Halifax Biomedical Inc., the Mabou, Inverness Co.-based company is expanding its business and has plans to create up to 75 new jobs over five years. To support Halifax Biomedical as it focuses on product sales and business development, the province, through Nova Scotia Business Inc. (NSBI), has approved a five-year payroll rebate to a maximum of $900,000. The company currently employs 15 people, 13 of which are located in Mabou.

"Halifax Biomedical is creating great opportunities for people living in Cape Breton and we are happy to be supporting an innovative and global company right here in our backyard," said Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development. "Investments like this are creating good jobs and helping to grow the economy."

Halifax Biomedical Inc. aims to protect and improve patient health by providing quality clinical research services and advanced research products. The company has developed a stereo x-ray imaging system known as the Halifax SR suite. New Glasgow native Chad Munro created Halifax Biomedical in 2004 as a biomedical engineering consulting company in Halifax after having worked in Europe for an international medical device company. His intent was to always return home and run his own company in the field of medical technology.

"Mabou is the ideal location for our company and we look forward to growing here," said Chad Munro CEO, Halifax Biomedical Inc. "We are firmly committed to the community and look forward to creating employment opportunities for people in the area."

In February 2007, the company moved to Mabou and kept the Halifax office as a satellite service centre.

"Halifax Biomedical is a home-grown company making notable advances in this highly specialized industry," said Stephen Lund, president and CEO, NSBI. "This is exactly the type of company we want to support -- a knowledge-driven company in an industry that is creating highly skilled jobs and generating overall growth for the province."

Halifax Biomedical Inc. is currently growing its Clinical Research and Product Development teams and is seeking professionals with previous clinical research and biomechanical engineering experience or training and experience in related medical disciplines. The company strives to create a healthy, and balanced work/lifestyle environment in a safe and affordable setting while providing competitive salary and benefit compensation.
