Ten Participate in Second Annual Kevin Grant Memorial 4-H Leadership Tour
Ten 4-H members from across Nova Scotia will attend the Kevin Grant Memorial 4-H Leadership Tour in Yarmouth this month to meet community leaders, visit rural employers, tour resource-based businesses and learn about somewhere different from their hometown.
The tour is held in a different region each year for three days during March break. From March 15 to 17, those selected, age 14 to 16, will get a broader view of what Nova Scotia has to offer as a place to live and work. They will meet new people and make contacts for the future.
"This program offers 4-H members leadership and career skills that may help keep them in the province," said John MacDonell, Minister of Agriculture. "The tour provides 4-H members an opportunity to see a different part of Nova Scotia so they can confidently decide where they want to settle when they enter the workforce."
4-H members participating are: Marja Himmelman, Shelburne County; Logan MacKenzie, Malcolm Elliott, Alex Oliver, Brendan Shaw, Pictou County; Taylor Hoyt and Kaitlin O'Connell, Colchester County; Gillian Tetlow, Kings County; Heather Sweeney, Yarmouth County; and Justin Jamison, Hants County.
"Kevin Grant was a strong supporter of the Nova Scotia 4-H program and his legacy will live on through this conference and tour," said Arthur Pick, manager, 4-H and Rural Organizations. "We are pleased to be able to offer this unique program for the second year."
Mr. Grant was a long-time 4-H participant and public servant. The conference and tour are sponsored by a memorial fund in his name that helps the Nova Scotia 4-H Foundation assist with rural youth development.
