Nova Scotia's Musical Talent Showcased

From Thursday, March 4 to today, March 7, Cape Breton welcomed hundreds of musicians and music industry representatives from Atlantic Canada and beyond for the East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs) festival and conference.

"Cape Bretoners are known for their hospitality and once again they didn't disappoint," said Premier Darrell Dexter. "The volunteers and workers can certainly be proud of their efforts. They made sure this weekend was a success and enjoyed by everyone."

Premier Dexter said that the ECMAs are important to this region, and indeed all the Atlantic Provinces because they provide an opportunity for new and emerging talent to be showcased, while providing enormous economic benefits to the local economy and allowing people to experience great homegrown musical talent.

"The ECMAs are quite simply the place to be every winter," said Premier Dexter. "There is a real sense of excitement in the air this weekend in Cape Breton. Hotels are booked, restaurants and pubs are busy, and everyone is having a great time."

Premier Dexter also wished Nova Scotia's musicians good luck at tonight's gala awards ceremony.

"I look forward to watching many of the province's musicians receive awards tonight and be recognized for all they do to contribute to a vibrant and thriving east coast music scene."
