Province Sets New United Way Record

The provincial government has again exceeded its United Way fundraising goal, raising more than $528,000, far exceeding the target of $475,000.

"We have had another successful United Way campaign," said Duff Montgomerie, divisional chair of the provincial campaign and deputy minister of Health Promotion and Protection. "It is evident through the success of this campaign that government employees are determined to help make a measurable difference for people in our community."

The United Way brings people and communities together. Through community partners, businesses and those in the community, the United Way helps build vibrant neighbourhoods that are safe and supportive.

"The provincial campaign was a significant and invaluable contributor to the United Way of Halifax Region, achieving its 2009 goal of raising over $6 million," said Catherine Woodman, president and CEO of United Way of Halifax Region.

The provincial government campaign was managed by volunteers in 43 government departments and agencies. The department of Health Promotion and Protection was the lead department for the 2009 campaign. For more information on United Way, visit www.unitedway.ca .
