Province Prepping Parents with Career Coaching Skills
Parents will get tips and tools to help their children choose a career path at the Parents as Career Coaches program at Dartmouth High School tonight, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m.
Labour and Workforce Development Minister Marilyn More will speak with some parents enrolled in the program, which is offered across the province.
Sessions have been held at Prince Andrew High School, Bridgewater Junior-Senior High School and Citadel High School. The program will continue until May in other communities.
"Young people continue to turn to their parents first when they have questions about choosing a career," said Ms. More. "This program gives parents the latest information on today's job market along with the tools to support their child while they make these important decisions."
Topics for the two-session workshop include, changing trends in today's labour market, identifying interests and skills and connecting them to potential career options, and, how to use online government resources such as www.nscareeroptions.ca and www.brightcareerfutures.ca .
This is the fourth year the department has offered the sessions, facilitated by the career and transition staff at the Nova Scotia Community College.
Last year, the program was offered at 33 high schools with more than 600 parents participating. A full list of this year's venues and dates can be found at www.parentsascareercoaches.ca .
