Rising Temperatures May Cause Slippery Driving Conditions

Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions before travelling tonight, Jan. 25, and into the morning hours. As the temperature climbs from freezing to above-zero overnight, a thin layer of ice may develop on roads, causing slippery driving conditions.

When temperatures rise, moisture is pulled from the ground and re-freezes, even in above zero temperatures.

Drivers can check the latest road conditions by viewing highway webcams on the department's website at www.gov.ns.ca/tran/cameras or by calling 511 or mobile 511 on their phones. Information on safe winter driving is also available on the website.
