PREMIER'S OFFICE–Province Confirms $10-million Investment, Welcomes Federal Commitment
Premier Darrell Dexter today, Jan. 21, confirmed the province's commitment to invest $10 million toward a new multi-use regional civic centre in Truro.
The premier also welcomed a commitment for funding announced by the government of Canada.
In November 2008, the province announced $10 million to help fund the civic centre.
"This was an important investment in not only the communities of Colchester County, but also in the health and well-being of people in the area," said Premier Dexter.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper was also in Truro today to announce the federal investment of $10 million for the centre.
"I want to recognize the government of Canada, and the prime minister personally, for his tremendous support in helping to ensure this facility becomes a reality," said Premier Dexter. "With the support of all three levels of government, this facility will provide many opportunities for people to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle."
The new a state-of-the-art recreation facility will be equipped with an NHL-size ice surface, six-lane swimming pool, walking track, fitness facility, multi-purpose/community rooms and office space for potential community partners.
