Women Invited to Participate in Outdoor Winter Activities

Women who want to learn new outdoor skills this winter can participate in a weekend of fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities.

The three-day workshop, Becoming an Outdoors Woman, will be held at Nova Scotia Gaelic College of Arts and Crafts in St. Anns, Victoria Co., Feb. 19-21.

The workshop was created in 1991 in response to barriers that discouraged women from participating in some outdoor activities. The program is available across Canada and the United States.

The weekend will introduce women to ice fishing, cross-country skiing, winter camping, trapping, geo-caching, nature in winter, winter birding, wilderness navigation, scouting for wildlife, winter woodsy and nature photography. Sessions are at an introductory level and equipment is provided.

The cost is $229 and includes HST, meals and accommodations.

Program partners are the Nova Scotia Federation of Anglers and Hunters, Cross Country Ski Nova Scotia, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture and Department of Health Promotion and Protection.
