Premier Offers Condolences on Death of Former MLA
Premier Darrell Dexter today, Jan. 8, expressed sorrow over the death of Alexander Garnet Brown. The former MLA and cabinet minister passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, at the age of 79.
"Whether as a politician or a businessman, Garnet Brown was always actively involved in all aspects of life in his community," said Premier Dexter. "He was instrumental in establishing cable television stations for Dartmouth and Halifax, and worked hard to support local sports and businesses.
"My thoughts go out to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed."
Mr. Brown was first elected the MLA for the former riding of Halifax-Eastern Shore in 1969. He was re-elected in 1970 and 1974. During that time, Mr. Brown also served on the Executive Council and was responsible for the Tourism and Highways and Public Works portfolios.
Flags will be lowered to half-mast at Province House and in Mr. Brown's former constituency.
