New Crown Attorney in Yarmouth
Richard Murphy has been appointed a Crown attorney in the Yarmouth office of the Public Prosecution Service.
The appointment was announced today, Dec. 3, by Martin Herschorn, director of Public Prosecutions.
"Mr. Murphy has many years of experience in criminal law and in federal prosecutions," said Mr. Herschorn. "This experience makes Mr. Murphy a valuable asset to the Public Prosecution Service."
A native of Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., Mr. Murphy graduated in 1980 from Acadia University with a bachelor of science. He went to Dalhousie law school, graduating in 1983. He articled with the Yarmouth law firm of Chipman Fraser Pink and Nickerson and later became an associate with the firm. Mr. Murphy became a partner in the firm of Pink Nickerson Star, later known as Pink Star Murphy Barro.
While in private practice, Mr. Murphy was an agent for the federal Crown attorney's office, prosecuting federal offences primarily under the Fisheries Act for 25 years. He has practiced criminal law in supreme and provincial courts.
Mr. Murphy was an assessment appeal adjudicator for 10 years and a small claims adjudicator for 13 years.
He is bilingual and coaches youth hockey and badminton in the Yarmouth area.
