Deputy Minister of Education Leaving
The deputy minister of Education will be leaving government in the new year to pursue a new opportunity, the Premier's Office announced today, Nov. 30.
Dennis Cochrane has been deputy minister since February 2000.
"I have enjoyed my time with the department and all we have accomplished together," said Mr. Cochrane. "I believe that our education system, across all levels, is stronger because of the partnerships we have formed."
Mr. Cochrane has a long and distinguished career in education and public service, including being a MP, MLA, mayor, principal, teacher and deputy minister of education in New Brunswick.
"Dennis has served the people of Nova Scotia admirably for nearly 10 years," said acting Premier Bill Estabrooks. "We are sorry to lose his talent and experience, but wish him the best of luck in the next stage of his career."
Mr. Cochrane's resignation takes effect Jan. 18, 2010.
