Fifth H1N1-related Death Reported

A fifth death during the second wave of H1N1 was confirmed today, Nov. 26, by the Department of Health Promotion and Protection.

The male patient from the Capital Health District was in his forties and had no underlying medical conditions.

"I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the individual at such a difficult time," said Dr. Robert Strang, Nova Scotia's chief public health officer.

The new death brings the province's total to six since July.

"This tragic event again serves as a reminder to underscore the seriousness of this disease," said Dr. Strang. "Everyone is at some risk of getting H1N1 and we are seeing otherwise healthy people come down with severe and debilitating illness. I strongly urge all Nova Scotians to get vaccinated to protect themselves, their friends, family and communities."
