Premier Says Energy Corridor Still on the Horizon

PREMIER'S OFFICE-Premier Says Energy Corridor Still on the Horizon

There is still opportunity to route hydro energy from Labrador through Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, despite Hydro Quebec's recent agreement to buy New Brunswick Power, Premier Darrell Dexter says.

Premier Dexter made the statement today, Nov. 20, after the meeting of the 17th session of the Council of Atlantic Premiers in Newfoundland and Labrador.

"We had a good discussion on energy possibilities in the Atlantic region," said the premier. "New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham said that he remains open to an energy corridor through his province."

The meeting was an opportunity for the Atlantic premiers to discuss collaboration on a number of issues, including energy co-operation, climate change and Canada's economic relationship with the United States. The group also toured the hydro energy plant in Lower Churchill.

Premier Dexter says the four Atlantic provinces plan to continue energy discussions in the near future.
