Premier Meets U.S. Ambassador to Canada

Premier Darrell Dexter and U.S. ambassador to Canada David Jacobson will meet for the first time today, Nov. 20, during the Ambassador's first official visit to Nova Scotia.

David Jacobson was nominated by President Barack Obama to become the United States Ambassador to Canada and was sworn in on Sept. 25. Previously, he served as a Special Assistant to the President, a partner in the law firm Sonnenschein, Nath and Rosenthal, and as a member of CEOs for Cities, an alliance of leaders organized to advance cities' competitiveness.

Mr. Jacobson is attending the Halifax International Security Forum this weekend. The forum is a major international conference on transatlantic security, attracting 300 leaders from government, industry, and academia, including U.S. congress members state governors, and senior representatives from the European Union and NATO. It is organized by the German Marshall Fund (GMF), an American institution dedicated to promoting greater co-operation and understanding between North America and Europe. The Halifax International Security Forum will be the fund's first public event in Canada.

"Welcoming the ambassador will be a pleasure and an honour, and I look forward to building on the great relationships that Nova Scotia enjoyed with his predecessors," said Premier Dexter. "I plan to take the opportunity to convey to the ambassador, Nova Scotia's cross-border interests in continuing our dialogue on priorities such as energy and trade."
