Nova Scotia students will have a better picture of contemporary Mi'kmaq youth from exciting new teaching resources unveiled today, Nov. 13.

The Department of Education's Mi'kmaq Liaison Office and the Office of Aboriginal Affairs announced the new video and companion learning guide for Nova Scotia high schools.

The video follows the journeys of four Mi'kmaq youth who have found success on different paths in life. A veterinarian, boxer, professional hockey player and RCMP officer are highlighted. The materials will be distributed to grades 10 and 11 for Mi'kmaq Studies 10 and Social Studies.

Premier Darrell Dexter, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, said it is important that young Nova Scotians experience the stories of contemporary Mi'kmaw youth.

"Nova Scotians share a common interest with the Mi'kmaq: and that is working together to build the future prosperity of the province," said Premier Dexter.

Education Minister Marilyn More introduced the guide to an enthusiastic audience of students and community members at Citadel High School.

"This is just one of the many ways government is infusing Mi'kmaw content into the public education system," said Ms. More. "These resources will benefit all Nova Scotian students."
