Nova Scotia Human Rights Inquiry Resumes

An independent board of inquiry will resume on Monday, Nov. 2, regarding a complaint of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and sexual harassment.

The complainant claims that while employed at the Nova Scotia Youth Facility in Waterville as a youth worker, his co-workers and a supervisor sexually harassed him over a six-year period due to perceptions of his sexual orientation. He claims the harassment was severe and also included physical contact.

A preliminary motion was granted by board chair Cheryl Hodder to ban publication of the complainant's name, his family members' names, and any other identifying features. Further, the hearing records are sealed and the chair's permission from the chair is needed to review the files.

The inquiry is being held in the Kennetcook Room of the Super 8 Motel, 63 Cole Dr., Windsor. It will start at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 2-5, Nov. 17-18, and 25-27.

Boards of Inquiry are the final stage in the human rights complaint process and are open to the public.
