Province Celebrates Patient Safety Week
Patients are encouraged to become more involved in their care as part of Canadian Patient Safety Week, Nov. 2 - 6.
"Good health care starts with good communication," said Health Minister Maureen MacDonald. "Patient safety week is an opportunity to recognize the role we all play in patient safety and a reminder to ask lots of questions, listen to the answers, and discuss any concerns."
"Nova Scotians can ask three simple questions about their care. What is my health problem? What do I need to do? Why do I need to do this?," said Dr. Ken Buchholz, physician advisor with the Department of Health. "By asking about their own care, patients can help to improve care and reduce miscommunication that may lead to adverse healthcare events."
Nova Scotia's district health authorities are planning information sessions and events across the province to raise awareness.
Tips on patient safety and provincial initiatives are available on the Department of Health website at www.gov.ns.ca/health .
