Government United Way Kick-Off
Nova Scotia government employees launched their annual United Way fundraising campaign today, Oct. 6.
Premier Darrell Dexter, was joined by Duff Montgomerie, deputy minister of Health Promotion and Protection, and Catherine Woodman, campaign CEO, Halifax United Way, to kick-off the campaign at the Halifax Metro Centre.
Mr. Montgomerie is this year's divisional and leadership chair of the provincial campaign.
"Nova Scotia government employees work in partnership with the United Way to create positive change within communities," said Premier Dexter. "Working together allows us to achieve our goals -- goals that benefit friends, families, neighbours and communities throughout Nova Scotia."
The United Way campaign is managed by volunteers in each department and agency. The Department of Health Promotion and Protection is the lead department for this year's campaign.
"Our provincial goal this year is to raise $475,000 for the United Way," said Mr. Montgomerie. "Last year was our most successful workplace campaign ever and I have no doubt that we will exceed our goal again this year."
The launch includes more than 10 sporting organizations to encourage government employees to keep active and to promote healthy living.
The money raised will support United Way activities across the province.
The provincial government campaign runs until Nov. 30.
