Province to Introduce Annual Fee for Video Lottery Terminals
Beginning Jan. 1, the Department of Labour and Workforce Development will collect an annual fee for video lottery terminals to help recover some of the costs associated with inspections, application processing and regulation compliance.
The new fee was planned by the previous government and will be $100 per machine.
"Government is committed to ensuring that legalized gambling in the province is conducted in a responsible manner," said Marilyn More, Minister of Labour and Workforce Development. "This new fee is necessary to continue to regulate and monitor this aspect of the industry."
Legions, halls, volunteer fire departments and other similarly licensed establishments will be exempt.
In addition, video lottery terminals on reserves are regulated by individual Band Gaming Control Commissions and will not be subject to the fee.
The fee will be due Jan. 1 of each year.
