Museum of Natural History to Close For Maintenance

The Museum of Natural History in Halifax will be closed to the visiting public beginning Monday, Sept. 14, for interior and exterior repairs.

The museum's public galleries, the nature centre and the retail shop will be closed. The Kits for Loan program and school programming will be unavailable until the museum reopens in January.

"The museum is a valuable contributor to the preservation and interpretation of Nova Scotia's natural heritage," said Percy Paris, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage. "This investment will ensure it continues to educate Nova Scotians about the natural world and its contribution to our social and economic well being."

The work includes repairs to exterior brick, asbestos removal and a new front entrance.

Administrative offices at 1747 Summer St., including those for the Museum of Natural History, Nova Scotia Museum Collections, and the department's heritage division, will be operational.

Information about the closure, plans for reopening in January, and coming programs and exhibits in 2010 will be available on the museum website at museum.gov.ns.ca/mnh/ .
