Premier Congratulates Doer on Ambassadorial Appointment

Premier Darrell Dexter today, Aug. 28, offered his congratulations to Manitoba Premier Gary Doer, who was named Canada's ambassador to the United States.

"Gary Doer has always been a strong and effective leader within Canada," said Premier Dexter. "I am sure he will continue in this capacity as he takes up his new duties in Washington.

"I have spoken to Gary and expressed my congratulations. He has made a major contribution to both Manitoba and Canada as a whole, and I know that he will continue to do so in Washington."

Premier Dexter said he looks forward to working with Premier Doer in preparation for the Council of the Federation Mission to Washington in February. Premier Dexter said it is an important step to ensure Canada and the U.S. continue to benefit from their long-standing trading relationship.
