Incredible Picnic Postponed to Aug. 30
The second Incredible Picnic is being postponed because of the hurricane forecast.
Community organizers have decided to reschedule the event at most locations for Sunday, Aug. 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"We respect the voices of the picnic planners in our rural communities who have told us that going forward this weekend is not the best option due to the pending hurricane forecast," said Agriculture Minister John MacDonell. "We are confident that Nova Scotians will support our decision and come out on August 30th to celebrate and enjoy fresh, local food."
Food vendors have expressed concern about staffing and food orders.
"Working with fresh, local food takes time, planning and staff," said Sean Gallagher, owner of Local Source Catering and Market. "As a business owner, I appreciate the notice. I support the postponement of the picnic and look forward to participating next week."
Indoor events at Cocoa Pesto Bistro in Windsor, Hants Co., and the Antigonish picnic will take place as scheduled on Sunday, Aug. 23. The picnic in Antigonish has been moved to the Farmers' Market, 4-H Building, James Street.
