New Crown Attorney in Truro
Jillian Ryan has been appointed a Crown attorney in the Truro office of the Public Prosecution Service. The appointment was announced today, Aug. 10, by Martin Herschorn, director of Public Prosecutions.
"Ms. Ryan is a valuable addition to the Public Prosecution Service," said Mr. Herschorn. "Her experience in criminal trial work is a great asset."
A native of Amherst, Ms. Ryan studied at Mount Allison University before going on to Dalhousie Law School graduating in 2002.
She articled with Patterson Palmer Law in Truro and then joined the Amherst firm of Beaton Blaikie Nurse and Farrell where she practiced in several areas of law including criminal law. In 2006 Ms. Ryan joined Blackburn English in Enfield where she maintained a general practice. As part of that practice, Ms. Ryan did per diem Crown attorney work.
Ms. Ryan is a board member of both Cumberland Community Alternatives and Cumberland Early Intervention and serves on the executive of Cumberland County Barristers' Society. She has volunteered with the Huntington's Society of Nova Scotia and Autumn House, a women's shelter. Ms. Ryan has also been a guest lecturer at Acadia University.
