New Crown Attorney in Amherst
Mary Ellen Nurse has been appointed a Crown attorney in the Amherst office of the Public Prosecution Service. The appointment was announced today, Aug. 6, by Martin Herschorn, director of Public Prosecutions.
"Ms. Nurse has valuable experience in criminal law," said Mr. Herschorn. "That experience will serve the Public Prosecution Service very well."
A native of Halifax, Ms. Nurse graduated from Dalhousie University in 1989. After a brief teaching career, Ms. Nurse went on to law school at the University of Windsor graduating in 1997.
She articled with Blackburn, English in Elmsdale and was later appointed an associate lawyer with that firm. In 2000 she joined Beaton Blaikie in Amherst and in 2003 became a partner. In 2004, as part of her practice, Ms. Nurse began taking on per diem Crown attorney work. In 2008, she began practicing on her own.
Ms. Nurse is a member of both the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society and the Law Society of New Brunswick. She is a member of the board of directors of the Nova Scotia Community Alternatives Program and is a past president of the Cumberland County Barristers' Association. She volunteers with her local hospital board in Sackville, New Brunswick.
