Premier Dexter Heads to Regina to Discuss Economy

Premier Darrell Dexter will join premiers and delegates from all of Canada's provinces and territories for the 2009 Council of the Federation summer meeting in Regina, Aug. 6-7.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, the discussion will centre on the economy. Premiers will take stock of the economic situation and discuss the impact of stimulus initiatives on their economies and citizens. Premiers will also discuss how Canada can emerge strongly from the recession.

On Friday, Aug. 7, the discussion will focus on building strong international relationships, as premiers examine how they can work together and individually to promote Canada internationally. Premiers will also examine current and upcoming talks on climate change and energy at the North American and international levels.

Premier Dexter will help lead discussions on a green economy and Canada-United States relations.

Along with Manitoba Premier Gary Doer, Premier Dexter will also discuss with his colleagues issues associated with H1N1 pandemic planning.

Prior to the beginning of the Council of the Federation summer meeting, on Aug. 5, premiers will meet with the leaders of national aboriginal organizations in the chamber of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.
