Responsibility for Police Review Board Temporarily Transferred
Responsibility for overseeing the Nova Scotia Police Review Board has been temporarily transferred from Justice Minister Ross Landry, to the Finance Minister Graham Steele.
The Nova Scotia Police Review Board will be holding a hearing in September into the termination of a former Stellarton police chief. Justice Minister Ross Landry, in his former position as Staff Sgt. with the RCMP, along with four other RCMP officers are involved in the proceeding.
The justice minister has initiated contact with the Nova Scotia conflict of interest commissioner, outlined action he has taken in this situation, and has asked the conflict of interest commissioner if any further steps are required.
Under the Police Act, the police complaints commissioner can refer a matter to the Nova Scotia Police Review Board. The Department of Finance will continue to oversee the board until a final decision is made in the Stellarton case.
