World Oceans Day Lands in Halifax
A live touch tank, face painting and educational games are some of the exhibits and activities of the World Oceans Day event on Friday, June 5, in Halifax.
An interactive exhibition will be held at Sackville Landing, next to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. This year's theme is Our Oceans, Our Responsibility. Various government, industry and academic groups and organizations, will gather to show the oceans' important role in everyday life.
"Food, employment and recreation activities are all dependent on our oceans, and it is our responsibility to ensure they are protected and conserved," said Greg Roach, assistant deputy minister, Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. "Nova Scotia's relationship with the Atlantic Ocean spans from our earliest settlers to today and will continue into the future."
Oceans Day activities will be held at Sackville Landing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The many interactive and educational exhibits, displays and demonstrations will help connect the community with the oceans. The event will take place rain or shine.
Last year, the United Nations general assembly declared June 8 as World Oceans Day.
